March is good weather, that’s for sure
At the beginning of the month, it is one of the best times to visit us, the weather is hot and dry and there is availability in our cars and in accommodation at a good price. You must take into account that at the end of March there is less availability and the prices are more expensive, due to Easter. If you travel on these days we recommend you make the reservation in advance. This year Easter is from April 2to April 9.
The weather in March is ideal for doing a circuit around the WHOLE country because it is the time when it rains the least in both climatic trends. We recommend you take a Mini SUV, a SUV, or a 4×4, where you will travel the whole country without problems! Remember that the Caribbean has two relatively dry periods (February-March and September-October) and the first coincides with the dry season in the Pacific.
What activities you can do ?
Surf
Enjoy all the beaches and surf. You will not know which beach to choose, there are specific areas for the practice of the best surfing in Costa Rica.
The North Pacific has strong winds and is ideal for this practice. Go to the Tamarindo area, Playa Grande, Playa Negra and Roca Bruja. The strongest waves in the Caribbean are concentrated between November and April, so you can also enjoy this practice on this coast and especially in Puerto Viejo.
Rafting
The Pacuare River is considered one of the best rivers in the world for its scenic beauty, it has category III/IV rapids. The Pacuare River is born in the Talamanca mountain range and after descending through the Costa Rican mountains and forests it reaches the Central Caribbean coast where it flows. In the middle of all this journey is the part that takes place during rafting. While navigating some really fun rapids, you can enjoy exuberant vegetation, admire the waterfalls that fall directly into the river, and observe the fauna that inhabits the surroundings. It’s not just rafting, being able to enjoy that environment already makes it worth going down the Pacuare.
Humpback Whale & Dolphin Watching
The humpback whale watching season runs from December to March and from July to December. Uvita and its Ballena Marine National Park are the most likely places to spot them in Costa Rica. The humpback whale and Bryde’s whale are the most common in the area. These huge mammals can reach up to 15 meters (50 feet) in length; females are even larger than males. Despite their enormous size, they are capable of jumping out of the water, providing quite a spectacular show for those lucky enough to be there at that moment. Another great good experience – more than whale watching – is watching the calf swim and play with the huge mother whale.
